Red Cross Safety Classes

Conveniently located at Almaden Valley Athletic Club®, Red Cross Safety Training Classes are led by skilled & experienced instructors.

CPR/AED

Learn the skills necessary to give appropriate care, regardless of the type of emergency. This course explains the emergency medical services (EMS) system, and emphasizes the need for rapid medical assistance in an emergency, and provides instruction on CPR, use of an AED, caring for shock, and more.

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers

Ideal for police, fire, EMS, nurses and other health care professionals. This course teaches those with a duty to respond how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.

Basic First Aid

Focuses on life-threatening and non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses such as seizures, stroke, wounds, musculoskeletal injuries, hypothermia, heat exhaustion, and much more.

Lifeguard Training

Designed for professional rescuers, babysitters, parents, and anyone interested in learning how to recognize & respond to aquatic emergencies. It is the required course to work in California as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or water play area. Through combination of classroom lessons, videos, and in-water skill sessions, participants will learn overall what it takes to prevent aquatic injuries & respond to emergencies.

Lifeguard Review

The Red Cross Lifeguard Training Review Course reviews & maintains the knowledge and skills you learned during training.

Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)

Get certified to teach Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR, and more. Instructor candidates must be 17 years old, able to test out of all Red Cross Lifeguard written and skills tests on the first day, and be comfortable presenting in front of a group using various instruction techniques.

Lifeguard Instructor Review Course (LGIR)

This in-person Instructor/Instructor Trainer review course is the required course for all Lifeguarding Instructors and Instructor Trainers to re-certify. During this course, Lifeguarding Instructors and Instructor Trainers will participate in an in-water practice and polish skills session with their peers and a classroom-based review of Red Cross administrative policies and procedures. Must present a American Red Cross Universal Instructor Certification Transcript to take this review course.

Prerequisites for LGIR:

1. Must be a certified current American Red Cross Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Instructor.
2. Must have completed the Lifeguarding Instructor Online Update.
3. Sign up with the AVAC Swim School.

Advanced First Aid / First Responder Training ("Title 22")

Advanced First Aid, also known as Title 22, provides firefighters, peace officers & lifeguards certification in Public Safety Personnel Assessment, Medical & Trauma Emergencies, and Childbirth. Meets CA Code of Regulations training requirements. This class also includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and is valid for 2 years.

Wilderness First Aid

Love the outdoors? Want to learn some advanced first aid techniques? This outdoor, hands-on class will prepare you to respond to any emergency, especially when professional help is delayed.
